VFinity's Web-centric media management technology is playing a
central role at the largest media event in history, the Beijing
Olympics. The Beijing Olympics, an event that will be seen by a projected
4 billion viewers worldwide and that will inject $70 billion into the
Chinese economy.
In late 2007, the Beijing Olympics' event services organization
contracted VFinity to upgrade its media capabilities.
The organization, called ETG Staging Connections, had been storing
content on laptop computers, DVDs, CDs and video tapes. Since the
scale of the Beijing Olympics was expected to be enormous - involving
hundreds of remote employees, contractors and files - inventory
tracking, version control and workflow were intimidating
prospects.
VFinity's central digital media repository is proving to be an
excellent solution for ETG. Producers, marketing personnel and
sub-contractors upload files to the repository either using a simple
Web-based interface, or directly from laptops or video cameras. Then
editors, clients, team members and all other authorized parties can
access this content through a Web browser using Google-like search
engine.
Additionally, VFinity's platform provides ETG with a mechanism for
media distribution. Videos and pictures may be loaded directly from
the VFinity system into any number of screens that are used in
events.
"We are extremely proud to be involved with the Beijing Olympics,"
said Joe Miao, VP of Sales, VFinity China. "The sheer
magnitude and compressed time frame of this event requires an extreme
level of efficiency," he added. "By centralizing media files and
offering a simple, Web-based mechanism for accessing them, ETG will be
able to avoid an otherwise large investment in physical mediums and
operational overhead."
About VFinity
VFinity is a digital media hub for
enterprises, which allows media to be ingested, indexed, searched,
played and published through a central "virtual repository." The firm
was born in 2000 as a digital asset management (DAM) company and its
technology was reborn in 2005, when its founder Shen Tong and his team
of MIT engineers reconstructed the entire product in the language of
the Web. Today VFinity is a 100% Web-based, Web Services- and
SOA-based platform. Its global customer base spans a variety of
industries, from such as Media, Advertising, Financial Services,
Higher Education and Cultural Institutions, and its clients range in
size from Global 500 organizations to three-person post-production
agencies.
