About us
Being Web-native, VFinity’s technology enables any person or system
to access all forms of digital content and production tools from any IP-connected
device through a web browser or web service. Access can come through standard
desktop computers, as well as servers, home TV set-top boxes, video game
consoles, cell phones, digital music players or banking systems.
At the heart of VFinity’s approach is a metadata driven workflow
called “Managed Web” (TM). VFinity’s metadata schema
is the most adaptable schema available. Each metadata schema can be structured
to support any metadata standard in any industry. At the same time, the
schema is flexible enough to allow any user to add all types of fields
on the fly. This flexible metadata supports folksonomies—capturing
comments and use-based metadata—both of which provide the “context”
that is critical to any Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 solution.
The company’s software is simple to use, requires minimal training
and can adapt to most business workflow requirements without interruption.
It is the only solution which has been designed and created from inception
as a web-based application. IT administrators also benefit because VFinity
offers a single point of upgrade, greatly reducing total cost of ownership.
Shen Tong, an award-winning television producer and entrepreneur, founded
VFinity in 2000. In the late 90’s, Shen Tong envisioned making digital
content and production tools available to anyone over the Internet. He
also foresaw the great impact digital video would have on the Internet
experience, and focused on adding rich video support to the platform.
To do so, he assembled a team of top engineers from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology Media Lab and other leading institutions. This
foresight is bringing the benefits of the Internet to all types of businesses.
VFinity’s headquarters are in New York City, and it also has offices
in Beijing, Taipei, San Jose and Los Angeles. The company has about 45 employees,
half of which are in the U.S.. |

In Shen Tong's words:
"Though we don't know its long-term social, political, and cultural
impact, media in all forms is playing an ever greater and more central
role in our lives. Media devices are also becoming more powerful and complex.
Soon, I see a media world where all media types will converge through
a digital interactive and video-centric platform, which has an open architecture
that will result in the emergence of millions of broadcasters, just as
the web made possible the emergence of millions of publishers. YouTube
is a charter member of this revolution. With VFinity’s innovations,
we are giving all users access to diverse forms of digital content and
we are enriching their interactions through the collective experiences
of other users. This is the power of "context"— a benefit
of the socialized web for any community or group of users.” |
